Juddsports Mock Drafts

Note: This is the first initial mock draft and other mock drafts will follow as the off-season progresses.

Mark Knight’s Mock Draft

The 10th and 11th pick are based on a coin toss between two teams. We just guessed on which team would get 10th and which would get 11th. The same goes with 16th and 17th and 19th and 20th. While the picks may change depending on the 50/50 of the coin toss, we believe most of our selections for that pick won’t.

1- St. Louis Rams (Record 1-15)Ndamukong Suh DT

The experts are calling Suh a once in a lifetime type play maker. He is considered the best player in the draft and while the Rams really need a Quarterback they 1- can’t pass up on a player like Suh and 2- the quarterback class for this year’s draft has no legit candidate for first overall pick.

2- Detroit Lions (2-14) Gerald McCoy DT

The Lions are still needing help desperately on the defensive side of the ball and specifically a pass rusher. They actually are probably happy with their position in the draft because they will end up with either Suh (if the rams happen to pass on him) or McCoy who is the best player in the draft behind Suh. And he just happens to also play DT.

3- Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-13) Eric Berry S

The Buccaneers are honestly looking just for the best player available, if there is any team in the draft that could trade out of the top ten, tampa bay looks the most likely. However, most reports coming out of Tampa Bay is that Eric Berry is the next Ed Reed type safety and Tampa Bay would be silly to pass him up. Unless they got a heck of deal.

4- Washington Redskins (4-12) Russell Okung OT

While many people speculate that the Redskins grab Sam Bradford at this pick, I don’t think they will. They DO NEED a QB but their line is in shambles, they have debatably the worst offensive line in the NFL and they need to build up some kind of protection for any future quarterback they plan on getting. With the options in the second round and Jason Campbell improving, they may grab the best OT in the draft at the fourth pick, which is Okung.

5- Kansas City Chiefs (4-12) Anthony Davis OT

This is the pick the Chiefs will use to help secure their offensive line. They need basically a makeover on the offensive line and Davis is the next best prospect to Okung.

6- Seattle Seahawks (5-11) Sam Bradford QB

Sam Bradford is the best quarterback in the class. He is working on durability and could use some time to sit behind a veteran but has the ability to play sooner rather than later. Perfect fit for the Hawks. Who I believe won’t worry about their offensive line until round 2.

7- Cleveland Browns (5-11) Joe Haden CB

Cleveland is looking for a lot of help in a lot of areas. With Holmgren at the helm, they are looking really to improve their quarterback situation and I think Holmgren will stay true to Brady Quinn and in the first round will address their next biggest need and that is a lock down corner, in Joe Haden.

8- Oakland Raiders (5-11) Bryan Bulaga OT

It was tempting for me to have the Raiders pick up the fastest person in the draft but I think they know they need to get some protection for whoever it is they have throwing the ball and they really need to lock up like most teams their offensive line.

9- Buffalo Bills (6-10) Jimmy Clausen QB

The Bills have not made it quiet that they want a new quarterback or at least a quarterback of the future and with the free agency looking dismal at best for quarterbacks its time to take the next best quarterback off the board.

10- Denver Broncos (8-8) Dez Bryant WR

The Broncos are possibly done with Marshall and he will most likely be in a new city come 2010 but even if they keep him. They are looking for a great play making WR to help relieve their crazy 3 headed monster at RB.

11- Jacksonville Jaguars (7-9)- Derrick Morgan DE

The Jaguars have a terrible pass rush and they are looking to improve that in this draft. Derrick Morgan is one of the best in the draft at this position and I think he will come off the board first.

12- Miami Dolphins (7-9)- Rolando McClain LB

Miami will look at the best player available like most teams but will be really looking for that special linebacker that immediately can make an impact. With McClain still available they will sweep him up.

13- San Francisco 49ers (7-9)- Mike Iupati OG

Unlike most teams the 49ers have a solid LT but the rest of their line needs work. They need guards and a right tackle. They may think to take a right tackle because it is still fairly early to take a guard, but Mike Iupati is a rare talent that looks like he could play any spot on the line.

14- Seattle Seahawks (5-11)- Jason Pierre-Paul DE

With the pick the Seahawks acquired from the Broncos, they are going to be looking at Jason Pierre-Paul if he is still there. Easily one of the best DE in the draft and probably one of the best in the 3-4. He has the size and speed to be an aggressive pass rusher in the NFL. The Seahawks need a jump start at this position with aging and ineffective defensive ends on their roster. (Many of you may be upset that I don’t have a OT coming off in the first round for the seahawks but I think the hawks will be looking for some more Max Unger types in the later rounds with Alex Gibbs as their o-line coach)

15- New York Giants (8-8)- Carlos Dunlap DE

The Giants are really looking to improve in two areas on their D-line and at the linebacker spot. Carlos Dunlap is a hybrid DE. He is built like a LB and can play like a linebacker but is a beast of DE. He is the most versatile DE in the draft and I think the Giants will not pass him up.

16- San Francisco 49ers (8-8)- Trent Williams OT

The 49ers acquired this pick from the Carolina Panthers and if Trent Williams is there they will seriously consider adding him as their new RT and thus shoreing up their offensive line in one round.

17- Tennessee Titans (8-8)- Brandon Graham LB

The Titans are really going to be looking in the draft for an outside linebacker to help with coverage and in blitzes. This is a interesting pick because Graham played DE at Michigan but is projected too small to play it in the NFL. However, Titans are also looking for a DE in the draft. This pick could give them the ability to allow Graham to at least practice or try out for the DE spot but will give them a solid OLB if it doesn’t work out.

18- Pittsburgh Steelers (9-7)- Kyle Wilson CB

Kyle Wilson is making a splash onto the scene and is quickly becoming one of the best if not the best cornerback in this year’s draft. He is a play maker and is fantastic at reading routes and the quarterback’s eyes.

19- Atlanta Falcons (9-7)- Everson Griffin DE

DE’s are quickly disappearing and the Falcons need one pretty bad. They will grab the next best one in Everson Griffin.

20- Houston Texans (9-7)- CJ Spiller RB

Spiller is the best RB in the class, because he can double as a wide-out or in the return game. The Texans are looking for a spark out of their backfield but also a running back that can hold onto the football, Spiller has never lost a fumble, and that will be very appealing to the Texans.

21- Cincinnati Bengals (10-6)- Jermaine Gresham TE

There will be a strong debate over who is the best TE in this year’s draft class but whoever it is expect the Bengals to be the first team to grab one. Jermaine Gresham looks like the safest bet right now.

22- New England Patriots (10-6)- Sergio Kindle LB

They are looking for another solid outside linebacker in this draft to ride opposite of their standout from a couple years ago, Jerrod Mayo. Sergio Kindle is also another DE that has come out of college projected as a OLB. He is very impressive in space and yet still is excellent in finding the quarterback. He might even try to compete for a DE spot but with the Patriots operating out of the 3-4 it is less likely that Kindle goes anywhere besides OLB.

23- Green Bay Packers (11-5)- Bruce Campbell OT

This one seems pretty obvious at this point. They really need a solid OT and Bruce Campbell happens to be the best player available.

24- Philadelphia Eagles (11-5)- Earl Thomas S

Earl Thomas is the second best safety in the draft behind Berry. Many speculate whether Mays can reclaim that spot but Mays has been struggling to stay in the first round and is needing the combine to improve his draft stock.

25- Baltimore Ravens (9-7)- Arrelious Benn WR

The Ravens are a couple pieces away from being a powerhouse on offense, they got Joe Flacco, now they need someone that can make a play with the ball in his hands and yards after catch. In steps Benn.

26- Arizona Cardinals (10-6)- Dan Williams DT

The Cardinals need help hardcore at DT. They were terrible last year from this position. Dan Williams is one of the many elite DTs in this year’s draft.

27- Dallas Cowboys (11-5)- Taylor Mays S

Mays can move up a lot in the combine but right now he is my number 3 safety and the cowboys are looking for help at safety. He is a hard hitter and has tremendous speed and athletic ability.

28- San Diego Chargers (11-5)- Brandon Spikes LB

RB is a huge need for the Chargers with the indications that Tomlinson is out in San Diego but at 28 with what is available they will see Spikes as a steal and RB can be addressed in the second round.

29- New York Jets (9-7)- Golden Tate WR

The Jets aren’t hiding the fact that they need a wide receiver and they tried to solve that problem with Braylon Edwards last season in a trade but he seemed to help with the problem not relieve it. They will be looking for a receiver at this spot in the draft.

30- Minnesota Vikings (12-4)- Kareem Jackson CB

The biggest need for the Vikings this off season is for Brett Favre to come back and assuming he does they draft a lock down corner in Jackson.

31- Indianapolis Colts (14-2)- Ricky Sapp DE

The whole Dwight Freeney fiasco in the Super Bowl was a nightmare for the colts, they need depth at this spot.

32- New Orleans Saints (13-3)- Navorro Bowman LB

Bowman had 214 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and 3 interceptions. He is all over the place and can easily help solidify the linebacker spot for the saints.

R.L. Judd’s Mock Draft

Suh is the best player in this year’s draft. If St. Louis doesn’t take him with the number one overall pick then they deserve to be kicked out of the NFL and have their football team taken away.

2- Detroit Lions (2-14) Gerald McCoy DT

The Lions are still at the point where taking the best available player is their greatest gain. McCoy will join the defensive line and make immediate impacts. Passing on McCoy would be a terrible decision.

3- Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-13) Eric Berry S

The Buc’s need a lot of things to go better in 2010. Having a prolific safety like Berry coming in and making statements on the field with his level of play can help them stay away from a top-3 pick in next year’s draft.

4- Washington Redskins (4-12) Sam Bradford QB

With Jim Zorn gone, so goes his attempt to build up his quarterback student Jason Campbell. The Shannahan regime in Washington will begin with a new direction, and that new direction begins with a new quarterback. Enter Sam Bradford.

5- Kansas City Chiefs (4-12) Russell Okung OT

The Chiefs need help. Matt Cassel was sacked 42 times last season, that ranked 28th. Okung is the best bet to improving the offensive line. Okung is the top rated O-lineman in the draft and adding him will aid Cassel’s throwing game.

6- Seattle Seahawks (5-11) Mike Iupati OG

The Seahawks’ offensive line was a mess last year. The hawks can add a young talented guard to pair with Max Unger and Sean Locklear to begin the foundations for the next generation of a hopefully successful O-line like the days of Walter Jones, Steve Hutchinson, Robbie Tobeck, and Chris Grey.

7- Cleveland Browns (5-11) Joe Haden CB

The Browns will Benefit immensely from a play-maker corner like Joe Haden. He has the ability to spark a defense to greater things. And if the Browns need something the most it’s ‘greater things’.

8- Oakland Raiders (5-11) Anthony Davis OT

Davis is the next-best OT behind Okung. The Raiders need an o-line to give their QB any time to do anything.

9- Buffalo Bills (6-10) Jimmy Clausen QB

The Bills are in a situation similar to the Redskins. They need to grab a new quarterback and begin in a new direction with their new QB. Clausen is their best bet and poises the best possible gain for them.

10- Denver Broncos (8-8) Dez Bryant WR

The Broncos received this pick from the Chicago Bears. Bryant will be Denver’s attempt of a replacement for Brandon Marshall as it looks like Marshall’s Broncos career is basically over. Denver should not waste any time in getting their high profile receiver and Bryant is it.

11- Jacksonville Jaguars (7-9)- Rolando McClain LB

McClain is the top linebacker in the draft and Jacksonville lacks the big name defender. McClain played well for the national champions Alabama in college and Jacksonville will bank on that to continue to the NFL

12- Miami Dolphins (7-9)- Brandon Spikes LB

The Dolphins don’t have much in their linebacker core besides Joey Porter. Jason Taylor is getting closer to his career’s end and the other LBs are not showing much. Spikes will be able to easily fit into their 3-4 system and his 260+ lbs size will allow more rotation between the LBs lining up as the defensive linemen.

13- San Francisco 49ers (7-9)- Bryan Bulaga OT

The 49ers struggled to fill in their tackle spot last season. Bulaga is a big tackle out of Iowa and would be a good piece to fill in their need at offensive tackle.

14- Seattle Seahawks (5-11)- Taylor Mays S

The Seahawks can use their pick acquired from the Dever Broncos to get the big play maker in their defensive backfield that they have been missing ever since Ken Hamlin left for the Dallas Cowboys. Mays is a bigger, playing making safety who also has ties to coach Pete Carroll from USC. All the tools are there for Mays to get the 12th man pumped.

15- New York Giants (8-8)- Derrick Morgan DE

The Giants have seen a steady decline from their DEs. Bringing in Morgan would not only add a play-maker DE but also allow Mathias Kiwanuka to return to LB where he had more success than he did at DE.

16- San Francisco 49ers (8-8)- Jason Pierre-Paul DE

The 49ers will use their acquired pick from the Panthers to improve the unimpressive DE position. They got 55 tackles out of Justin Smith in 2009, but they will look to Pierre-Paul to help their 3-4 system D-line.

17- Tennessee Titans (8-8)- Golden Tate WR

The Titans refound their spark in Vince Young midseason. Now all they need is a high quality receiver for him to throw to. Tate will give them their receiver they need to continue the late-season surge from 2009 into 2010.

18- Pittsburgh Steelers (9-7)- Kareem Jackson CB

The Steelers will take Jackson to act as a nickel back corner for the time being. The Alabama corner will fit nicely into the Steelers system and will serve his time until one of his predecessors leaves or retires.

19- Atlanta Falcons (9-7)- Kyle Wilson CB

The Falcons have an unimpressive CB rotisserie and will look for the draft to help them. Wilson is their guy. Wilson knows what it feels like to win coming from Boise State and will look to instill that feeling to the rest of Atlanta’s defense.

20- Houston Texans (9-7)- C.J. Spiller RB

Steve Slaton showed Houson that he might not have what it takes to be their RB last season. He showed a bad knack for giving up the football and finished the season on the IR. Spiller never fumbled in college and will come to Houston in a pristine situation for him to excel in the NFL.

21- Cincinnati Bengals (10-6)- Aaron Hernandez TE

Do you know who the current Cincinnati TE is? ….. Exactly. Hernandez will get lots of hype for this pick because he played at Florida and caught passes from Tim Tebow and will go into the Bengals system with little interference for the starting TE spot.

22- New England Patriots (10-6)- Carlos Dunlap DE

Once again, another team looking for a fresh face in their 3-4 system. Dunlap will go into New England and have a successful rookie season similar to that of 2008 New England rookie Jerod Mayo’s success.

23- Green Bay Packers (11-5)- Bruce Campbell OT

The Packers are in need at their offensive tackle position and Bruce Campbell will be the best available for them. They will be adding a young tackle when some of their other tackles are showing some wear and tear.

24- Philadelphia Eagles (11-5)- Earl Thomas S

The Eagles struggled to fill the void from Brian Dawkins’ departure. Their answer lies in Earl Thomas. Thomas is a solid all-around safety who will show immediate results for the Eagles.

25- Baltimore Ravens (9-7)- Jermaine Gresham TE

The Ravens have been expecting more from Todd Heap for a few seasons now, and while he is producing they still want more. Adding Gresham will add a second top tier TE who will either produce with Heap, or propel Heap to perform better. Every team loves when they can have two sets great hands coming from a two TE formation.

26- Arizona Cardinals (10-6)- Dan Williams DT

The Cardinals only saw 58 tackles come from their DT position combined. They will want to bring in a new face to shake things up and cause a ruckus for opposing offensive lines. Williams will be left on the board at their pick and will show the depth of this year’s DT class in the draft.

27- Dallas Cowboys (11-5)- Trent Williams OT

The Cowboys will look to further enhance an already solid offensive line. Last season a little bit of shake up with Marc Columbo missing some time, and Williams will be there to fill any void that Dallas may come across.

28- San Diego Chargers (11-5)- Jonathan Dwyer RB

With all the reports saying LT is out in Chargerland, they will need a running back to accompany Darren Sproles. Dwyer is a solid back who would create a great tandem with the much smaller Sproles. He could see the endzone many times as a Charger.

29- New York Jets (9-7)- Arrenlious Benn WR

Braylon Edwards is unfortunately known for his dropped balls. Benn is known for his route running and yards after catch. Yards after catch means he catches the ball. Solid pick for the Jets to throw to and to spark better performances from their receivers.

30- Minnesota Vikings (12-4)- Terrence Cody DT

Who doesn’t like depth? The Vikings have the Williams wall in Minnesota and adding Cody will further the intimidation of their D-line past their first wave. He adds a lot to the Minnesota’s line when either Williams is not on the line.

31- Indianapolis Colts (14-2)- Brandon Graham DE

The Saints will look to solidify the spaces behind their starters. Brandon Graham will add a mean face to their defense and allow any Dwight Freeneyless defense of Indianapolis be just as dangerous as it is with Freeney.

32- New Orleans Saints (13-3)- Sergio Kindle LB

Adding Kindle will bring a new face to the LB core of New Orleans. Jonathan Vilma won’t need any motivation to improve coming off his 110 tackle season in 2009, but his mates will. Kindle will supply that pressure or take over their spot.
